Reger Oil's exploration program is anchored by a rare and difficult-to-replicate asset: the Focus Library, one of the most complete privately held geological and geophysical databases ever assembled in the Williston Basin of Montana and North Dakota. Owned by Reger Oil, it is a proprietary 2D seismic and prospect library that has been built, refined, and protected across five decades — and it gives Reger Oil a genuine data advantage in one of North America's premier oil basins.

A FIVE-DECADE PROVENANCE
The Focus Library's roots reach back to 1972, when James Reger and Jase Norsworthy funded the computer transcription of well-log correlations across roughly 4,400 Williston Basin wells. In 1974, Patrick Petroleum signed an exploration agreement with Reger and Norsworthy and began a 2D seismic development campaign that made Patrick Petroleum a top-ten oil producer in the Williston basin in less than 10 years.
As the oil boom of the 1970s and '80s wound down and producing assets changed hands, copies of the database were broken apart and dispersed across numerous companies. The Focus Library survived intact — believed to be the only complete, undivided copy of this database in existence. In 2015, Reger Oil acquired it in full, returning the database to the Reger name that had helped create it.
WHY IT MATTERS
The Williston Basin is one of North America's premier onshore oil basins. In addition to the Bakken Shale, the Williston Basin is best known for its conventional, stacked objectives — the Ordovician Red River, Mississippian Mission Canyon and Lodgepole, Devonian Nisku and Winnipegosis, and Silurian Interlake among them.
The Focus Library lets Reger Oil pursue these targets with discipline: identifying specific, data-defined prospects, leasing them, and then confirming them with modern 3D seismic — rather than acquiring acreage speculatively. It turns decades of proprietary data into a focused, lower-risk path to drilling-ready locations.
